Find your perfect domain name | www.

Virtual Private (VPS), Virtual Dedicated (VDS) and Cloud Servers provide you with a greater level of control, customisation and performance than Shared Hosting.

You can select from all the major virtualisation technologies, each allowing you the choice of managing your Virtual Machine via full root access or by using a Control Panel

This is the Virtualisation Technology used - OpenVZ, XenServer, Redhat-KVM
This is the type of CPU access you will be provided with - Shared (amongst all VMs) or Dedicated (for your use only)
This is whether your Virtual Machine is fully isolated (like a dedicated server) or using a shared infrastructure
This is the Disk type available and an indicator of IO availability and performance
This is the maximum number of Virtual Machines we allow per host-node for that type of service (note it's usually less than half the max)
This is if the resources are always 100% available to you or 'oversold'
This is an example of the type of use-case for the VM type - not all virtual machines are suitable for all types of services - for example OVZ is not suitable for hosting multiple websites or anything mission-critical or time/clock dependant
This is the effective maximum throughput of the virtual network card associated with the VM (the burst level)
This is the starting price for the type of vps/vds/cloud server - actual price will depend on period chosen and size of machine

Astutium VPS / VDS / Cloud Servers are built on Supermicro Dual-HexCore systems, with RAID-10 disk arrays, 64GB RAM and Redundant Power-Supplies. These resources are then sub-divided into multiple VMs (virtual instances), which can have guaranteed availability of CPU/RAM/DISK and can burst to higher levels when necessary - giving you the power of the highest specification servers at a fraction of the capex cost.

What is an Astutium VPS?

Virtual Private Servers (VPS) are designed for single-task or temporary use, ideal where you don't need dedicated resources, high-levels of throughput, or g'teed processing, but still want control over the OS selection and configuration
Possible uses of a VPS are; Nagios monitoring stations; Private VPNs ; Temporary OS Testing Servers ;

  • A VPS stores your files in a container
  • A VPS shares RAM/CPU and DISK-IO with the other virtual machines on the host-node
  • A VPS has its own copy of applications and configuration files
  • A VPS can have full root access
  • A VPS can be started, stopped, recreated and modified independantly of any other vps instance, instantly online

What is an Astutium VDS?

Virtual Dedicated Servers (VDS) are the step between shared hosting and a fully dedicated server. Your Astutium VDS provides you the power, control and performance needed for todays demanding e-commerce, application and enterprise hosting solutions, and are designed to be 'little servers', behaving almost exactly like a stand-alone physical server, with its own filesystem, configuration, processes and users, completely isolated from other VDS instances.
Possible uses of a VDS are; VoIP/Teamspeak Servers; Web Hosting Servers; Email Servers; LAMP Development Systems ;

  • A VDS gets its own dedicated CPU and RAM - not shared with other users
  • A VDS has its own applications and configuration files
  • A VPS can have full root access
  • A VDS can have a control-panel (like cpanel) for managing hosting accounts

What is an Astutium Cloud Server?

Cloud means "someone elses computer" - it's our hardware running in our datacentre, but virtualised for your use, and isolated from access/impact by other customers.
A Cloud Server is a VDS which can be scaled up as your requirements grow, instantly online through your Client Portal.
Possible uses of a Cloud Server; Shared Hosting Servers; App Deployment Servers; MySQL Database Servers; Dedicated Minecraft Worlds; Anything you could need a dedicated machine for !
